Situation of plastic products in the world
Plastic production increased exponentially, from 2.3 million tons in 1950 to 448 million tons by 2015. Production is expected to double by 2050, which is 896 million tons. Each year around 2% increase.
Plastic takes more than 400 years to degrade, so most of it still exists in some form. Only 12% has been incinerated. A Whopping 91% of plastic is not recycled.

What is GRS?
The Global Recycle Standard (GRS) was originally developed by Control Union Certifications in 2008 and ownership was passed to the Textile Exchange on 1 January 2011. The GRS is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.

Chain of custody
Social & environmental practice
Chemical restriction

Benefit of GRS Certification
This 3rd party verification, will motivate the (quality) claim independently towards the clients. In addition, traceability and contamination risks can be managed better by certifying the management system and/or the product.
Requirement of GRS Certification
Percentage of recycled content
GRS is applicable for any product which is manufactured with minimum 20% recycled materials
Traceability system
Starting from the material recycling process, every production step must be traceable and audited.
Verification of materials collection
Material collection and material concentration sites are subject to self-declaration, documentation collection and site visits.
